Learn how to submit a compatibility report on SwitchDB, what each field means, and tips for writing helpful reports.

What is a compatibility report?

A compatibility report is your first-hand experience of how a game runs on Nintendo Switch or Switch 2. Reports from the community are aggregated into an overall rating for each game, helping other players make informed decisions.

How to submit a report

  1. Find the game - Use the search bar or browse the Games page to find the game you want to report on.
  2. Open the game page - Click on the game to see its details and existing reports.
  3. Scroll to the report form - Below the game info and existing reports, you will find the "Submit a Compatibility Report" form.
  4. Select your platform - Choose whether you played on Nintendo Switch (original/Lite/OLED) or Nintendo Switch 2.
  5. Choose a rating - Pick the tier that best describes your experience (see rating tiers below).
  6. Fill in performance details - Select the FPS and resolution you observed in both handheld and docked modes.
  7. Add notes - Optionally describe any issues, crashes, or notable performance details.
  8. Submit - Hit the submit button. No account required.

Rating tiers explained

SwitchDB uses five rating tiers inspired by material quality, from best to worst:

  • Diamond - Runs flawlessly. Stable frame rate, no crashes, no visual glitches. The best possible experience.
  • Gold - Runs great with minor issues. Occasional frame drops or small visual bugs that do not affect gameplay.
  • Silver - Playable but with noticeable issues. Frame drops during busy scenes, longer load times, or visual downgrades.
  • Copper - Runs poorly. Frequent performance problems, crashes, or bugs that significantly impact the experience.
  • Rusty - Barely runs or is unplayable. Constant crashes, extreme frame drops, or game-breaking bugs.

Performance fields

FPS (frames per second)

Select the FPS range you observed. "Stable" means the frame rate stays consistent. "Variable" means it fluctuates between the given range. Switch 2 reports include additional options for 60-120 FPS and 120 FPS modes.

Resolution

Choose the resolution you observed in handheld and docked modes. "Dynamic" means the game adjusts resolution on the fly to maintain performance. Options differ between Switch and Switch 2 since the newer console supports higher resolutions.

Notes

Use the notes field to describe specifics. Good notes include things like:

  • Areas or levels where performance drops
  • Whether the game crashes in specific situations
  • Visual differences compared to other platforms
  • Game version or patch number if relevant
  • Whether you are playing physical or digital

Tips for good reports

  • Be honest - Rate based on your actual experience, not expectations or reviews from other platforms.
  • Play for a while first - Some issues only appear after extended play sessions or in later game areas.
  • Test both modes - If possible, try both handheld and docked modes before reporting.
  • One report per platform - If you play on both Switch and Switch 2, submit separate reports for each.
  • Update if things change - If a patch improves or worsens performance, submit a new report to reflect the current state.

How ratings are calculated

Each rating tier has a numeric weight (Diamond = 5, Gold = 4, Silver = 3, Copper = 2, Rusty = 1). The overall rating for a game is the weighted average of all approved community reports, rounded to the nearest tier. The more reports a game has, the more accurate its rating becomes.

Rate limits

To prevent abuse, you can submit up to 3 reports per game per day and up to 10 reports total per hour. This keeps the data fair and accurate for everyone.
